Case Studies

Case Study 1: Gold Coast Youth Service

Coefficiency has been supporting the Gold Coast Youth Service to reduce their environmental impacts since September 2010.

A formal evaluation was conducted in May 2012 and here are the key points from that evaluation:

    • Obtained GreenBizCheck Silver Not For Profit environmental certification
    • Obtained funding for a 5kW solar photovoltaic system
    • Reduced their electricity usage by 10% through supporting staff to change their behaviours
    • During evaluation, 100% of staff agreed that the Gold Coast Youth Service operated in an environmentally responsible manner, compared to 33% at the beginning of the sustainability program
    • Ratified environmental policies to govern future practices and processes
    • Identified a sustainability champion and integrated regular opportunities for staff to contribute ideas on how the organisation can further reduce their environmental impacts
In this video, Lesley Healy, Manager of the Gold Coast Youth Service, discusses her experience of their sustainability program delivered by Coefficiency:

The waste we send to landfill has halved since we started this program, and our recycling has doubled: Jenny, Administration, Gold Coast Youth Service

Case Study 2: Gold Coast Not For Profit Sustainability Cluster

In 2011, Coefficiency facilitated the first Not For Profit Sustainability Cluster program in Australia.

We recruited 16 organisations operating on the Gold Coast in Queensland, and facilitated a 12 month Sustainability Program.

Participating organisations achieved the following:

    • Integrating sustainability into the culture of the organisation
    • Reducing their electricity usage by up to 20%
    • Communicating their achievements to their clients
    • Motivating their staff to change their inefficient behaviours
    • Obtaining external credentials to support funding applications

This sustainability program was supported by the Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management & the Institute of Sustainable Development and Architecture (Bond University).

In this video, organisations share the benefits and experience of improving their sustainability with Coefficiency:
